Busy season of working groups ahead – register to participate!

Attendees enjoying a previous Task Force meeting in Stockholm

After a quiet summer break, the GÉANT Task Forces and Special Interest Groups are now in full planning stage for a busy September of meetings.  If you’ve never attended a meeting before or have been absent from them for a while, there is now is a great opportunity to get on board with one of your favourite topic areas.

GDPR Meeting

A planning group for a proposed Task Force looking at GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) issues will meet at the DFN offices in Berlin on the 28th August.  Sign-up is open and you can follow planning for this group on the “thinking about legal” list.   You may be aware that the importance of the impact of GDPR was already discussed in an earlier post from the SIG Marcomms group.

SIG-MSP

SIG-MSP (Management of Service Portfolios) will meet on the 20th – 21st September at the HEAnet offices in Dublin, with registration open, but filling up fast!  This meeting will focus on two topics; day one will look at NRENs and schools – covering best practice, network connectivity for schools and the new UP2U project.  Day two will look at current and new NREN services, including Jisc Liberate, ASPERA and eduVPN. Information about previous SIG-MSP meetings can be found on the SIG wiki pages.

TF-CSIRT

The TF-CSIRT members will get together in Stockholm on the 21st – 22nd September, kindly hosted by the Swedish CERT-forum.  The meeting is unfortunately now full with a waiting list as we continue to welcome a growing number of community members to the TF-CSIRT meetings.  In September we will also be looking at GDPR from a CSIRT perspective and will focus on operational issues such as shared taxonomies and the results of recent scanning efforts by CSIRT teams.

SIG-CISS

SIG-CISS (Cloudy Interoperable Software Stacks) will meet for the very first time on 25th and 26th September in Amsterdam.  CISS (to be pronounced with a hard C) is the follow up to the previous TF-Storage, it will be hosted by SURFSara and will take place alongside the Second International Open Research Cloud Congress.  To get involved in SIG-CISS and help plan its future please sign up for the event.

SIG-ISM

SIG-ISM (Information Security Management) fifth workshop will take place at the BELNET offices in Belgium on the 5th – 6th October.  Registration is open.  The meeting will present updates from two recently established working groups that have been developing inventories for security officers and guidance for NRENS in setting up ISMS.  There will also be an opportunity to hear from other international activities in the ISM arena – including the WISE Community.

SIG-ISM focuses on Information Security Management for NRENs and brings together security teams and CISOs (Chief Information Security Officers) from NREN organisations.

There is of course no rest for SIGs and TFs as we move into the end of the year – with the CLAW Crisis Management Event in Malaga, the sixth SIG-NOC (Network Operations Centre) meeting in Utrecht and SIG-PMV (Performance Monitoring and Verification) in Copenhagen, keeping us all busy in November.  With many thanks, as usual, to all of our kind hosts for helping us make all these events happen.

We hope to see as many of you at our meetings very soon!
