Recently, the UbuntuNet Alliance – the networking organisation in Eastern and Southern Africa – announced the successful connection of the Somali NREN SomaliREN to the regional UbuntuNet backbone with an STM 1 circuit from Mogadishu to the Alliance’s PoP in Dar es Salaam, bringing the number of connected countries across the region to 8.

This milestone was achieved under the aegis of the EU-funded AfricaConnect2 project and with financial support from the World Bank.
